Cherry plum tree

If you're looking for a fast growing, drought tolerant, deciduous  tree with blossom if the sparrows don't eat them , look no further.
I was keeping mine pruned  to about 8ft but didn't get around to pruning it properly last year.
It's doubled in height and half as wide again. Filled a council bin and I've only done half of what I can do from the ground.
Procrastination protracts pruning process 😒

And now that you have given it a good prune it will reward you with loads of new suckering shoots sprouting from the roots over a wide area.

Fortunately it doesn't sucker at all. The ground is probably too dry.
It normally. gets a good pruning every year

We have two outside our house, but not on our property. We love them. The foliage colour is dramatic, the blossom beautiful, and they do fruit a lot. We managed to beat the birds last year, and pickled some in Gin. I can highly recommned!

I wouldn't describe them as suitable for small gardens though, they are about 5-6 metres tall.

Unless you prune then, which I didn't last year😕
I'll get it back down to size this year. I saw one fruit  - once. The sparrows missed that blossom.   I
I find a leafy deciduous tree more welcoming than claustrophobic when planted for a bit of privacy in my front garden. Evergreens loom.
