'weeds'

Hello. New poster here - would appreciate your advice.
Some local residents and I, are trying to stop my local council spraying glysophate weedkiller in our public parks and spaces.
Does anyone have any suggestions on alternative methods that are more environmentally friendly?
There is also a petition, should you wish to sign it, that would help our cause. Thank you.

I'm very sympathetic to this cause but I imagine the issue is cost. Weeds can be reduced by using these targeted burners but otherwise, I think the only effective method is to pull them out and that involves time and manpower. My own council uses weedkillers and I would rather have the weeds, but I don't honestly see any chance of change.

@robbiepiper Welcome. My local council have  just set up a new scheme.'Please excuse the weeds we are feeding the bees'. In a poll 66% of people voted for it. We also have no mow corridors.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

If they are using it on pathways, kerbsides etc they probably have little choice. people will quickly complain if there is too much vegetation on pathways and will take the cheapest route. (no pun intended).
If they are using it in  planted areas would it be possible to change this policy an area at a time. As previous posters have said, some signage explaining the importance of wild native plants might minimise complaints.
