New Turf Help

Hi,  I had new turf laid at the beginning of April. I watered twice a day for the first 4 weeks or so until the joins had nearly gone.  I then reduced to once a day.  I did a first cut (mower at highest setting) about six weeks in.  By this time the joints were gone and the grass passed the tugging test. I continued to water but every other day.  The grass was very green,  long and looked to be doing great.

I cut it Wednesday before the bank holiday. Whilst I was away someone cut it. They cut it short and I came back to,  yellow / brown grass that looked like it had never seen water,  bald parts and generally the look of dead grass.

Is it beyond repair? Is it possible I allowed it to grow too long before cutting it?

Ps trying to upload a picture.

It will grow back DavidK85. You've given it lots of care and you say that it's rooted so I don't think you need to worry, grass is tougher than we think. Is that loose, dead grass lying there, if so you might care to rake it off carefully? Carry on the good work.

Thanks for the response. I think it might be bits the mower did not pick up.  Will see about getting rid of them.

I agree, it will recover. It looks like it's really been scalped, but grass is surprisingly resilient.
Give it a couple of weeks and it will be fine. Just try and keep off it if you can.
Depending on whereabouts you are in the UK it's probably getting a lot of natural rainfall, and hopefully temperatures will pick up again soon which will also help.

Thanks AnniD, I think the person that cut it set the mowet to the shortest setting rather than continuing with topping. Perhaps that's what has made it look so terrible.
