Allium Gladiator - No Leaves

SN2008SN2008 Posts: 23
Good evening all. I have a beautiful Gladiator in full bloom right now which I planted a couple of months back. Noticed the leaves dying back a few weeks ago. It's basically now a stem with the flower. Should I be concerned? I'd love this to come back again next year but surely won't be much photosynthesis going on?

That's what they do. The leaves are already dying back as the flower emerges. If you leave the flower head to go to seed you will soon have dozens of them.

Thanks Posy. I can relax now!

To my knowledge, most (all?) allium work like that - the leaves wither off as the flowers bloom.

I grow a small Allium Cenuum and the leaves stay nice and green through summer. The tall ones often have browning leaves as they come into flower. You can hide them with other plants such as hardy geraniums
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
