Morning Raisingirl, yeah, from what I recall they were quite thick and gnarly. I know I had a bit of a time getting them into the pot. I put about three in each cos it said they like to be kept tight. No idea if that was the right thing to do, but they're growing so it wasn't completely wrong!

It's often said but it's not my experience that they flower better when overcrowded. Mine are in open ground. But that's by the by.
They have strap leaves, so as others have said, I can't see any in your photos. If you planted them fairly recently, they may not be showing yet. Have a rootle about and see if you can see anything that looks like very fat grass coming up.
