Is this Blackspot?

Is this blackspot or aphid damage. It does have a few aphids on the flower stems.
Thanks for any advice.

Yes, that's black spot I'm afraid. Most roses seem to suffer from it and I don't spray.
It sometimes pays just to pick off the worst affected leaves and pick up any dropped ones.

Dehydration can make roses more prone to black spot, so give your plant extra water to help it cope.  You can use an organic spray if you want to but read the small print before you buy/use.  When you water your plant, try to avoid watering the leaves as the water will rinse the fungal spores onto other leaves - aim directly at the roots!  I'd also add an organic mulch on top of the soil to keep moisture in, such as garden compost or farmyard manure.

  • Ok, thanks for the help. I won't spray, I'll do what you say to try and keep them healthy. This particular rose is in a hot and dry area of the garden.
