Problem finding weedkiller concentrate

KT53KT53 Posts: 9,016
Our local garden centres and DIY sheds only seem to be stocking premixed weedkiller, which to me are a bad idea for a number of reasons.  1 - I already have a perfectly good sprayer.  2 - there are going to be masses of unusable 5 litre containers going into the bin after a single use.

Thanks for the link Pete.8 but I'm wondering why they are no longer available, or at least reare, in GCs and DIY sheds.  It's a nuisance having to order on line.

I imagine that like so many things these days, it's cheaper to buy online and have it delivered, so GC's and the like don't bother to stock it.
From their point of view the profits on selling multiple sprays of diluted herbicide outweigh what they'd make on selling the concentrated stuff.

Even so, I'm surprised at the massive increase in cost of the concentrate.
    I bought 5L in 2016 which cost £26 - it's now around £60 - so I'll make mine last.

    Have you tried Wilko?

I hadn't thought of Wilko.  It is on their website.

It's because some people are stupid and don't know how to mix it or deliberately mix it wrongly.
They're taking stupid out of the equation.

If you are referring to the post by MikeOxgreen, I regret to say there may be more than a small amount of truth in the statement.  When the world thinks it necessary to put 'Contents may be hot' on the lid of a cup of coffee nothing would surprise me.

I was told the lowest common denominator was also why supermarkets stopped selling chickens with a bag of giblets tucked into the cavity. Too many people cooking the whole thing including the plastic bag....

Our local Dobbies doesn't even seem to have pre-mixed glyphosate weed killer anymore - let alone the concentrate. The bottles all proudly announce 'No glyphosate' 😕

I'm not unduly bothered whether it has glyphosate in it, as long as it works.  I just want the concentrate so I can dilute to my own requirements.  I discovered long ago that the only difference between the various Roundup options is the concentration of glyphosate in them.  I always just checked to see which had the best price to concentration and bought that.  I can do the maths to modify the concentration!
