  I was still using maincrop up until Xmas last year. If you want "new" potatoes for salad at xmas  You plant first earlies in the next couple of months, in buckets or bags and be prepared to move them inside a greenhouse of polytunnel to keep the frosts off later.  You will probably see them advertised for sale soon. They always neglect to say about keeping the frost off.

  Creeps even the price for 1kg of seed potatoes!

  I bought 70kg this year I can't imagine paying a price anywhere near that.
