Libertia Grandiflora care

alfharris8alfharris8 Posts: 513
I have two mature Libertia Grandiflora which I do nothing to at all but I notice the ones in a local park get cut back hard like grasses.
Which is the right way? Thank you.

I can recall cutting one back years ago for someone. Lots of leaves were brown at the tips it was congested and scruffy. It came back fine but as I recall took a long time to regrow.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Here the local parks have a team of labourers...(not gardeners).
Their idea of pruning is to go though everything with a strimmer.
Ignoring whether shrubs are due to flower etc etc.
All are given a severe haircut.
    It is cruelty to plants.

I never pruned by Libertia grandiflora and it was fine.

Thank you all. Mine certainly look statuesque and has flowers so I will carry on doing nothing. Great.

The only time I've seen cutting them back recommended was by a guy that said if you don't they look tatty after a few years and it freshens them up. I think they said it took a while for them to come back and look great again, so no point doing it if they already look healthy.
