I never understood how/why women on serious TV (or in other professional situations) got away with exposed cleavage (cleavage..cleavage - one of those words that becomes more nonsensical the more you say it) - isn't that akin to a man having his shirt unbuttoned to the waist?
Here in Scotland we have one weather woman (am I allowed to say woman these days) who has an ample cleavage, wears tight leather skirts and as soon as she appears I have to put the subtitles on as she speaks very quickly and her broad accent makes it almost impossible to understand. Distracting for the opposite sex (am I allowed to say that these days) and no gravitas.
I agree with you too, and I blame the producers far more than the journalist.
It's degrading. News anchors are supposed to be there because they're good at their jobs.
It's also completely inappropriate to be dressed up in party clothes while informing the public about war, poverty, crime, deaths and political scandals
Isn't the problem anyway, that women never had 'business attire'? The business suit, or at minimum, jacket and tie, was what was worn by men. No thinking about it apart from what colour tie to wear with which coloured suit. That never really caught on as mandatory for women who, when I was at work, had a much freer view of what business attire meant.
I also have this loathing of men in lycra. Lycra works if you're an elite athlete shaving off milliseconds from your time trying to hit a personal best, not on men out for a sunday bike ride around the lanes of Sussex. Appropriate attire isn't restricted to business..
I think one (possibly the only) excuse for lycra for 'hobby cyclists' is that you can pop it in the washing machine on 'Refresh' for twenty minutes ... drape it overnight on a clothes horse/airing rack and it'll be fit to wear in the morning, unlike jeans or tracksuits or whatever ... there can be no other reason for some of the sights I see ... but then I don't get folk shopping/eating out etc in baggy tracksuit bottoms and tee shirts either ...
As far as I'm concerned, as long as I don't have to wear it I don't care what the less stylish folk consider to be appropriate ... at least I check in the mirror before I go out ... if I remember

In the interest of gender balance, we've had a new chap recently who looks like he should have his hand up the backside of Orville the Duck.
Other than those 2 the rest are all fine.
