French/Runner Beans not germinating at all :(

    And lo....they have all germinated!! *note to self - patience is a virtue B)
    The one thing all gardeners need to cultivate is patience  ;)

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    I usually sow mine on the 1st May,  but that’s too early,  this year sowed on the 5th,  still too early,  will do them on the 20th next year. 
    Weather seems to be getting colder here,  very cold nights recently, 3 - 4°. Maybe bit lower here. 
    They do need warmth. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor. 

  • Ah thanks, all. I may try some again indoors.....the weather is so changeable atm! Fingers crossed....
    Have you tried soaking the beans for 24 hours before you sow? I've always done that & rarely get a problem with germination.
    My problem tends to be slugs & snails attacking the young shoots in the hours of darkness. I'm now trying a garlic spray as that is supposed to deter them.
  • @sussexhandymanplus no, I haven't tried soaking - good idea, I'll try that if I encounter the same problems next time. They're doing well now, so far!
