A plum tree not fruiting.

Last autumn I found a plum on top of a stone wall underneath a tree that I had no idea was a plum tree  --even though I had been in the garden some 30 years.

So this year I have kept a closer watch on the flowers and the occasional small fruits that developed  but the few I saw have disappeared, presumably fruit drop.

What could I do to reestablish this (actually  these) trees into useful fruiting?

My first thought is weeding and feeding  but I am such a poor gardener I anticipate years of frustration and disappointment ahead of me based on my previous failures with raspberries and logans.

Any advice nonetheless?

Is it possible that your tree has grown from a suckering rootstock belonging to a grafted plum tree growing in the area earlier?
If so I don’t think there’s anything that can be done to increase its productivity … although it may produce a few fruits each year which will be welcomed by the birds … especially pigeons.

That sounds very plausible. There seems to be an area where quite a few similar trees are growing.Next the some wild cherries  in fact.

    Maybe buy some new trees

    Plumbs would be very welcome
