Peony Karl Rosenfield Planting Depth

Guy at the nursery said plant at the same depth as it is in the pot, I'm sure I've heard that the buds should be just under the surface, no more than 50mm.
Can anyone advise please?

Personally I would plant at the same level. It will possibly sink a little bit over time so it's no bad thing that the crown is slightly proud of the surface. It also allows you to mulch around it.

It could safely be planted a little deeper, so the rhizomes are no longer visible but still very near the soil surface. They like to feel the heat of the sun and burying them too deeply is a common reason for poor flowering. I tend to cover mine, as it gives a little extra protection if we have a cold winter here. It won't have been needed this year!
