Mid Terrace - North Facing - Alley

Hi,

I've got this little alley at home that is north facing and shady. I'm thinking of putting in a bench and some Hosta plants in pots. Any other ideas or things to consider/plants that may work ?

Thanks GW members !

Ferns would also work, they prefer shade.

You could also consider painting the fence a pale colour (if it's your fence). Do you mean a workbench or a sitting bench? Shady spots are great on very hot days.

Pots of epimediums, white geranium phaeum, heuchera, Busy Lizzies would work.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

If you want to add some height to your planting, Fatsia japonica will thrive in a shaded, sheltered space.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

Persicarias will thrive here. Always look lush and healthy.
