Laying turf - new build (clay soil) - HELP

Hello! I'm very new to gardening and have recently purchased a new build property with a garden. The garden has clay soil and I want to lay down my own turf. I've been doing some research on the best way to deal with this and I've been reading that breaking up with clay, raking it flat, adding topsoil before laying the turf down is the best option...
Can anyone give me some advice on the best way to lay turf on claysoil? I want to try and do everything myself.
FYI - the garden has drainage.
