Plant ID please

Fran IOMFran IOM Posts: 2,872

Does anyone know the name of this plant? Have had it a few years now and has had little attention apart from cutting off unsightly leaves and has just done it's own thing.
Now it has produced some thick stems of what could be future flowers of some sort.
Would be interested to see what is going to appear if anyone knows please.
Many thanks.

  • Far from an expert but looks like a phormium to me , mine's never flowered but i believe they do flower in summer on spikes much taller than the foliage.
Kindness is always the right choice.

@Desi_in_London Many thanks for the info. Now that I have a name I have googled what the flowers would look like and it could be quite interesting! Will just have to wait and see and take a pic when they show. Thanks again.  :)

I now have photos of the flowers which grew from the Phormium. It has taken over three years but they do look good.

Once the flowers have set seed you can cut the stalks off @Fran IOM.
If you keep the seed pods and dry them, l might be cheeky and ask for a couple  :)
It's been a few years since l tried growing phormiums from seed.

@AnniD Hope I know when they have set seed and will then cut the stalks off. You are most welcome to some (or all) of them as I'm sure I won't be giving it a go. I haven't got the patience.  :)
