Bought this in the winter labelled Toona sinensis 'Flamingo', which it clearly isn't now the leaves are out. Looking for an ID please, assuming a prunus maybe?

Looks remarkably like Salix caprea to me … but I could be wrong … it has been known …

If we had a clearer photo … Salic capers has alternate leaves but I can’t really see clearly from that pic …

Sorry, will get better photos tomorrow. I agree about the leaves being similar to goat willow (although these are a little larger) but I think the trunk isn't a match, is a rich dark brown with little white spots on it. I am pretty sure they are opposite. I can't imagine garden centres would bother to sell goat willow would they?

Sorry, couldn't work out how to include a linked photo, the original is too large to upload and I can't make it smaller on my phone.

Not intentionally .., but if one takes root in a pot and the original plant dies … mistaken identity and careful nurture of the Cuckoo’s Child has been known 😂

The leaves are the wrong shape for Toona, and so is the colour. Mine have leaves that resemble Rowan leaves in structure, and are bright pink at this time of year.

    Not Toona!

Looks very much like blinking weedy willow ..again.

    Agree with Dove.

You need to ask for a refund.

@Balgay.Hill definitely not Toona, that's just what the label says and why I bought it (the one at Wisley caught my eye from a long way off so I was pretty pleased to find it on the winter (out of leaf) discount table at £10).

I managed to get a quick photo (next post) this morning but was in a rush so will return with better photos for IDing.

I am cultivating a goat willow (self set seedling that I thought I'd bonsai) and am confident this is different, not to say it's not another type of willow though.

There were about 3 of these fairly identical for sale all labelled Toona so it will hopefully be something worth keeping if a GC had bothered to propogate them.

I agree, I should seek a refund but it was only £10 and wasn't a local GC so would cost more in petrol and time than I'd get back. Might be worth emailing them though in case they'll send me a Toona in the post though...
