@Fairygirl I definitely don't have great expectations this early on, more than anything I'm comparing it to the how the shrubs I planted last March fared after a few months. They're all average growers as well (Rosa Primula and Nandina Domestica, Sorbaria Sem doesn't count as it's a fast grower) but had a modest amount of growth on them this time last year. I am beginning to wonder though whether different websites have different ideas of what average growth is! One difference this year is that I haven't put the bark chippings on yet. Last year they went on in April but I've been holding out and waiting for when the annuals were ready to put in the beds so there hasn't been as much moisture in the soil. The annuals are in now but I have a bad shoulder at the moment so I may have to do the bark piecemeal.
Anyway, I took a closer look this evening (the Weigela isn't easily accessible at the moment) and it turns out that new growth has now kicked in. Some healthy looking new stems so I'm a happy bunny 😁
That'll be fine now You can't really compare plants with others, as they don't all grow at the same rate, even if they're in the same general conditions. Shrubs, in particular, grow very differently from perennials, and they establish at different rates.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I have 2 different kinds of Weigela (Florida and Bristol Ruby). Both are coming to the end of flowering now, but I usually get a second but much smaller flush of flowers in Sept.
perhaps yours will put out a few flowers around then, after it’s had a few months to send down more roots and take in nutrients ?
@Fairygirl My guess is that it's down to the few days of rain we've had after so little. I think my take away is to not rely too much on the label's/retailer's description as they're too generic!
@ERICS MUM That'd be nice. Shan't get my hopes up too high but 🤞
