ID please - shrub

A relative wants me to lower the height of these but this kind of shrub isn’t really my forte. Will they regrow to cover woody areas if I go in hard?

    You can cut it back hard, it will shoot out from the base and thicken at the bottom.

    Thanks, as soon as I heard it was a laurel i showed no mercy!

    I did this to mine about a month ago jellyfire. Starting to lift the crown and it's given me a bit more garden to grow ferns in the shady corner.

    Lovely @Uff, I do the same with mine at home. This is just a hedge that has got too big
