Geranium water cutting method

So the Geranium cutting goes into the water and just the bottom inch or 2 is submerged for approx 2 weeks, how often should I change the water using this method or shall I not bother changing it? 
Will the conservatory windowsill be OK to keep it?

    Yes the cutting goes into 2 - 3ins of water, I find it takes mine longer than 2 weeks, I change the water when it starts to look discoloured and the conservatory window sill is fine, it's where I keep mine when I take them.
