@Balgay.Hill - in the Midlands here. I can’t remember when this clematis starts and finishes flowering because previously it’s only had about 5 flowers in total I’m sure. And I remember the fluffy seed heads lasting well longer than the flowers so will be interesting to see if it flowers late into the summer.
It does depend a bit on location, but generally, they start flowering at this time of year @Balgay.Hill, depending on variety too. My favourite one has succumbed to a bit of wilting. It's usually coming into flower later in May.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Quite a few of the group 3s give you the fluffy seed heads. What colour were the flowers you had?

Photo in the thread @Balgay.Hill, I’d say it’s a light almost dusky pink. I’m going to try and prune it to different lengths so that there’s always a chance of some new growth from the bottom up and some higher up so see if it will climb to the top of the pergola. I have a new solanum glasnevin on the other side of the pergola so I don’t know if that will work well or not.
I’ve probably killed 2 clematis in my time so I’m hoping this one which is the last survivor decides to stick around.
The "fluffy things" are seed heads. If you don't dead head the spent flowers the plant puts energy into seeds rather than more flowers so its up to you about dead heading. Either way, clematis are hungry plants and most are thirsty too so adding plenty of mulch and feeding will help it grow to its full potential and flower more prolifically.
