Naughty Knautia

CloggieCloggie Posts: 1,457
After hearing Monty bang on about his Jewel garden I set up a bed by the patio that I only allow intensely coloured or hot coloured flowers into such as Red Hot Pokers, Montbretia Lucifer, Geums and so on.  At this time of year there are knautia macedonia floating about with deep crimson pincushions but they've started throwing disappointing lilac flowers.

Only disappointing because they mess with my perfectionist tendencies, they are lovely and I'd like to have them near some scabious in a pastel border.  I've cut off the lilac heads but I must admit I felt a bit like Morticia Addams whilst doing so.

Anyone else suffer similar "First World" problems? 🤔🙄

I have both the crimson and the Melton Pastels strain of knautia. They're supposed to be in different parts of the garden but they self-seed where they want. I pull out any that are really where I don't want them, and any that turn out to be a nasty insipid peachy shade. I don't mind the pinks and lilacs in the right place.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

I didn't buy any lilac and I've not seen peachy ones but if I did I might think about making more of an effort and relocate them.  Nice problem to have 😊
