A site that isn't too sunny, where it'll get adequate moisture but is well draining, is the ideal. Not a site that could get waterlogged. It's why they grow so well here - the climate suits them in most of the western parts of the UK. As long as your soil isn't alkaline, it'll be fine in the ground.
Prep the area well though - plenty of organic matter, and water in well, and especially in late summer if you don't get a lot of rain through that period. That's when the new buds form for next year.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Looking online, that particular Camellia flowers Jan to March, so i'm surprised it has any flowers on it, never mind that strange flower.
It grows to 16ft tall according to one website, so it will probably need to go into the ground eventually.

  • @Dovefromabove scratch the earlier reply, you may be right😅 my husband just took the flower off and said it was my 5yr old tricking me!
Obviously I’m so new to this, completely believed this was all naturally happening!

I’m sorry for getting everyone into this but appreciate all the tips on growing camellia🥰

Oooh!  I think the five year old had a Big Assistant!!!  He owes you lots of gardening time!!!

It's ok ... we guessed what was going on  🤣 ... and after you've spent time on here with us all, you'll have learned so much you'll be able to bamboozle him with horticulture!!!   Just ask ... we were all beginners once and we're all still learning ... just some are further along the journey than others 👍

We weren't fooled for a minute.

That was not done by a 5 year old...far too realistic!
Thank you for coming back to tell all of us.

  • @Dovefromabove thank you for your kind words.
He didn’t even give a clue when I was panicking yesterday, I never thought he’d do this to me🤣 and it looked so real…to my eyes at least!
  • @Silver surfer I was the only one! Wait, could it be my husband? He was the one who suggested I ask at the gardening forum in the first place🙈

anyways, I’m glad my white camellia is unharmed!

@ura.chiemiunK_XzY5 ... you could have a go at winding him up ... you could tell him that you've fallen in love with the Foxglove Tree ...

    By the way WELCOME.

5 year old would not be dexterous enough to place a single foxglove flower so perfectly.
    Clever..it fooled you.

Your husband  set you up good and proper!!!!
    No matter .
I think you have been given some excellent advice by others...so joining here was well worth it.

I dread what hubby will be dreaming up for 1st April next year.
We have previously been asked to id a plastic artificially flower...anything is possible!
It keeps us on our toes.

I am sad your Camellia was pruned before you bought it. It will be fine.
