Cutting back geranium for second flowering

LatimerLatimer Posts: 1,068
Good morning all! 😊

I bought this geranium over the weekend and was advised that cutting it back could lead to a second flush of flowers. How far back and I cutting it? Right down to the ground?

Thanks?

Apologies for the poor photo!

Good morning Latimer. Yes, you can safely shear it back to ground level but I would just leave the little tuft of leaves you can see at the front of your picture on, as your geranium has only just gone into the ground.

Given that it's a baby, I would just cut back the spent flower-heads, but normally, you can go right back to a few inches. Make sure it gets enough water to start again.

I would say yes  :) Shear it back or use secateurs, give it a good drink and wait. It always looks drastic but it works.
See what others have to say, just to confirm.
