    One of the suggestions from Gardeners Corner was possible Whitefly eggs.

    Those dark spots in the centre of the white clumps look like the developing scale like larvae, I suppose we might find out over time.

    Fairly sure the problem is caused by Thrips as in photo. Thank you all for your input.

    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
