Plant peony roots in June?

bernoberno Posts: 2
Hi,

I bought some discounted peony roots online and everywhere I read about peonies says to plant in autumn or spring. As it's so late in Spring right now, what is the best thing to do? Should I store them until the autumn and plant them then?

Thanks,
Bernard

Plant them up in pots, with the crown not too deep. No more than about an inch below the soil level. Keep them watered, but not waterlogged.  The only reason for saying to plant at that time is because it's easier to establish them due to weather - damper. Spring is also good because it's damp enough, but they'll also want to grow.   :)
If you just store them they'll either dry out or rot, depending on how they were stored.

I agree ... better planted now than left ... they might not last that long ...
