Plant Identification

KeithsterKeithster Posts: 29
Could anyone identify this plant please.  I thought it was a cotoneaster, but it has never flowered or produced any berries.  I pruned it down to the ground and even thought I had dug it up  a couple of years ago, but it's back and growing vigorously.  Whilst I'm happy to have an evergreen in the garden, it does take up a lot of space and it would be useful to ID it so that I know whether it will ever flower or be attractive to wildlife.  Thank you in advance.

It looks like box. Cotoneaster leaves are alternate on the stem, I think. Box (just looked at mine) are opposite.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Lonicera nitida is a good plant for a dwarf hedge - but a bit boring IMO as a free-standing bush.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

It does flower, but the flowers are very small. Berries to follow. Very useful as a foil to other plants.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Difficult to get rid of though, as I am discovering one year after removing three of these.

Popular with nesting birds here, dunnocks especially.
