Worm swimming in my pond

NewBoy2NewBoy2 Posts: 1,813
I have a pink worm that is happy swimming about like a sea snake in my allotment pond.
Its not a drowning earth worm.
The pond contains tadpoles some frogs and two newts
Any ideas folks.

A couple of years ago we had a baby grass snake swimming in our pond. I first noticed it because I reached in to remove it thinking it was a worm! Not sure it was pink though.

Earth worms don’t drown, it probably fell in :).

(I said this in another post about worms.)
I have a pet Axolotl (Henry) who eats earthworms. When I clean him out I occasionally find an escaped / uneaten worm hiding behind the plants in the tank. They are perfectly fine and either swim off or Henry finds them 🙈.

I've had this in my pond and concluded it was/is a leech. They swim in sideways undulating fashion.

Could be a leech but they are usually black. Could be all manner of larvae though, hard to say without a pic though

some fleece dropped in and when i retrieved it there were several leeches attached  to it.

    Thanks all

Years ago I watched a leech in a river eating a snail that had fallen in. Most species are harmless to humans and there's only one that actually sucks blood (the Medicinal Leech).

As children we used to sit and dangle our legs in a horse pond, trying to catch little leeches … we usually got a few.

In the days before industrial strength horse wormers became common I assume? :#
