Delphinium - mildew??

I have two delphiniums in a large planter, only put in about 4 weeks ago.

One looks very healthy and the other looks sad, pictures below. Is this mildew? If so how do i treat it please?

Both were bought at the same time and appeared ok so I guess this has come since planting?

Thanks

    It does look like mildew.
It's usually caused by the compost drying out then getting soaked which weakens the plant and lets mildew get a hold.
Try and stop the compost from drying out. Not much you can do though if it rains heavily, but it's the drying out that is usually the start of the problem
Not sure there's much you can do , but often plants will grow out of it.
Seaweed extract will help the plant recover if you have any. But don't overdose with it

Here’s a recipe from Tom Brown, head gardener at West Dean in Sussex. He says it raises the pH of the leaf surface making it less susceptible to mildew. The advice is to spray weekly.
    1 gallon water
    3 tablespoons baking powder
    1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    2 drops washing up liquid

I think being in a container will make it harder too.
They're not really ideal as container plants, unless you're in a wetter part of the country where they're less likely to dry out. Even then, it would be harder if there's a lot of plants in there competing, plus the foliage preventing water getting in to the roots.

Ah - fair enough! Probably just getting too dry, then wet,  as @Pete.8 is describing then.  :)
