Clematis flowers dying.

Hi, I have a clematis in a house I have just moved in to. It flowered fine, but now the flowers have started to shrivel up and die. There are still some new buds, some are opening but others are drying up and dying before they open. The leaves are fine, there are new leaves growing that seem healthy. Anyone know what might be wrong with it? Thanks.

Is it in the ground or in a pot? I'm no expert, so hopefully someone else will be able to suggest something... but my first comment would be about water - is it getting enough? My montana leaves don't droop when thirsty, so it can be hard to tell, but I wonder if prolonged drought stress might cause this shrivelling. I don't *think* it's wilt, as the leaves would be going too. Are there any inverts in the flowers?

Most of those are just spent flowers @stargazing39kDahe7gf, but flowers not opening is usually a sign of too little moisture being available.  :)
Montanas don't get wilt, and the first signs aren't there anyway.
How is it being grown? They need to be in the ground as they need a lot of room for the root systems. If it's in a container, it may well be struggling for moisture, and that can mean the flowers get ditched at the expense of maintaining foliage.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
