Have I planted this hedge well?

I have planted 8 Griselinia Littoralis shrubs along my garden boundary.

I have planted them each 70cm apart and at roughly the depth of the pot they arrived in. They are all 30cm from the fence itself (I will be keeping this hedge quite narrow).

Before planting, I heavily watered the plants in their pots and allowed to drain for ~20 minutes. I also did the same to the trench that I dug.

Along the bottom of the trench I sprinkled mycorrhizal fungi.

This is my first time planting, have I done anything horrifically wrong? Will my hedge likely take well or is there something I need to urgently redo?

I also have weed membrane. My plan is to give it a week or so for everything to settle and then lay the weed membrane on top of the soil to discourage weed growth.

I'm also considering making a drip line out of an old hose to keep everything moist.

looks fine to me, but if it were mine I would not use a weed membrane.

Fences create a rain shadow, where much less rain reaches the ground within about a foot or so of the base.  That makes is harder for plants to establish, especially something as thirsty as a new hedge. Those are already quite sizeable plants too.

I think they may do better if you moved them forward about 6 inches or so, especially where the wider parts of the bed allow for this. I know this may seem like a hassle when you have just planted them, but now would be the best time to do so, if at all.

Whatever you do, you will need to keep them well watered right through to Winter. That's fairly standard with any new hedges, but especially where you have them planted in such a narrow space, up against a fence.

Your planting depth and width are fine. I avoid using membrane on newly planted shrubs/trees, as I find it slows/limits rain reaching the ground. In very short/heavy downpours, water has a tendency to run off it, rather than soak through. I'd say better to leave that for a year.

The drip systems sounds fine, but they will need quite a bit of water during warm/dry periods, so you will need to check that you have set it at a suitable flow rate.

I agree with @punkdoc.  You've done well planting them but I wouldn't use a weed membrane.  It's better to top your bed with a thick layer of organic mulch such as garden compost, farmyard manure or soil conditioner - it will help to keep the bed moist and provide some nutrients for your plants.  I have two Griselinia hedges.  You've made an excellent choice, thay are quick growing and easy to care for.  Enjoy your plants!

Just read @KeenOnGreen's note.  He is right, in ideal circumstances a greater distance from the fence would be better for your plants because of the rain shadow effect.  One of my hedges is six foot tall and a foot deep.  I planted it 18 inches away from the fence and it is fine, despite the fact that immediately behind the fence is my neighbour's monster 9 foot mature laurel hedge!  If you have the space and time to move them forward, do so, you'll have more space to access the hedge behind to trim it - I rarely do this as the hedge seems to sense the barrier and keeps a natural distance!
