There are alot of these growing around

There are alot of these growing along the verges in the village,  what are they? Some kind of weed I presume,  but they are pretty. 

This one is in a pot left out all winter, and because I'm not able to do much gardening it escaped being pulled. 😁

    They look like Canterbury Bells, Campanula medium. Not a weed.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Campanula. They will self seed. Beautiful and vigorous.

    I did plant Campanula seeds in trays overwinter in the greenhouse,  but they never came up. I don't like to waste compost so used it for something else. So if these are those seeds, it's taken eight months for them to appear!
    If the self spread that would also be why they are around the village.
