Gardeners I inherited this DA rose and as you can see it's in bad shape.  If i prune all the dead bits and repot it, do you think it will recover?

unless it's of sentimental value, I'd lose it.
If it is, then prune the dead bits, feed it and hope for the best

Thanks Hostafan. It's a bit sentimental, so i think I'll give it a chance.

Prune all the dead stuff off then re-pot deeper so that the only shoot showing above ground is that live green one.

I'd give it a try. A friend who imagined that I understood plants asked me to rescue a rose like that which she valued very highly.(Though not enough to care for it properly.) I potted it up in rose compost, cut off the dead bits, kept it in good light but not hot sunlight and watered it very carefully. NO feed. To my utter amazement,  it grew bright new leaves and actually flowered before the summer was done.

Roses are easy from cuttings. They do not need to be budded. So if you prune it, get some healthy growth, then you can take cuttings.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm hoping the one green shoot on it will save it from the bin. Watch this space!

@Busyliz That is great news and just goes to show well worth all the effort. What is it called?
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
