I have Manteau d'Hermine @Pete.8, which is particularly nice, and more compact. I had it in a previous garden, so it was a definite choice for this garden too. Just about to have some flowers opening
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Me too @Fairygirl it forms a lovely ball of flowers and foliage. I also have P aureus - lime green foliage (in the spring) and covered in highly scented flowers atm. Both are really easy to take cutting from too.
I do have the tall virginal too (as in the pic above) but it's all woody stems and a few flowers at the top. I've cut it back to the ground several times, but doesn't want to flower until it gets to about 6ft, by which time it looks like a load of stems with a few flowers near the top.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
I've just taken some cuttings of the Philadelphus @Pete.8 , so fingers crossed they take. Where I'm going to put them if they do, is another matter....
P. aureus looks good.

Lots of varieties.
I prefer the smaller ones - just as scented but much nicer looking
