I really do sweet FA to the Bumble apart from pruning it back. It's not even in full sun. I never water or feed it. It's planted into a very narrow bed (about 30cm) running between concrete paths. It's covered in bees all summer.

Thanks again for all your help.  I've decided to go with Lavender Phenomenal.  Plants ordered and planning to use the long bank holiday weekend to dig out the border ready for the delivery next week.  I really do like the Royal Bumble as well and have a couple of places where that could go so it will definitely make it onto my shopping list!

If you have a couple of spots left you could go for Mexican Fleabane (Erigeron karvanskianus). It will self-seed into cracks and start to encroach on the path, sprawling everywhere, but I find if it's planted into decent soil it makes a very satisfying mound.  It will flower for at least 9 months if you live in a relatively mild area.

Ooh that looks nice too.  I've got a few walled areas where that would look lovely.   Another one to add to the list!!

Sounds great, do keep us updated — some photos would be lovely to see them planted up!

Here you go - before grass, afterwards a small lavender hedge.

It ended up being a much bigger project than I planned!  We dug up some of the lawn as turf to patch other parts of the garden.

I was worried the soil was too clay like for lavender so I dug it out down to over 20cm.  I mixed some of the soil with loads of compost, sand and grit and filled the trench back in.  I then planted 35 lavenders in mounds on top of the improved soil using a mix of top soil, compost, grit and sand.  They better thrive after all my efforts 😂😂

I did a little Lavender row last year and it’s fabulous this year. Officially your and my Lavenders are too close but for a hedge effect it will work well. I hope you are pleased with yours @welshcake 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
My garden and I live in South Wales.

The garden centre said to do 3-5 per metre for a hedge effect.  I went with 5 as the plants are so small!  Good to know yours looks fabulous a year on….I shall look forward to next year!!
