@EleanorRigby Looks like it is going to be an exciting project. Look forward to your photos at a later date.

  • Hello,

I am back! I wish it was with pictures of my finished garden shrub area. However, due to going on holiday, buying the shrubs, waiting for delivery and then getting covid it's all been on hold.

And in the meantime, my beautiful clear area has sprouted literally 1 million weeds. I could actually cry.

I've spent time today clearing some of it and attached pictures are what it looks like at the moment.

Please please help me with a fast way of clearing this! Without going round getting out each individual weed as by the time I've finished that, they'll have started growing back again.

Are you happy to use a weedkiller?
  • I am but I wasn't sure if that would affect the shrubs I'm going to plant? Also I reckon some of the weeds would laugh in the face of weedkiller.

I can't see it affecting the shrubs to be honest, but it's up to you :)
If you don't want to use weedkiller and have the inclination, l would tackle it a section at a time with a border fork getting out as many as you can.
If you have your planting mapped out, you could weed one section and plant that before moving onto the next.
Covid can really take it out of you so that may be the way to go, that way you can see results and it gives you encouragement .
  • Ah ok fab thank you! I might try weedkiller and see how that goes then dig them out section by section.

    Thanks for your help 😊

@EleanorRigby There is a positive the fact that you can grow so many weeds means your soil must be fairly fertile. Good news for your new plants. Some may say it depends on what those weeds are but a soil with hardly any weeds can be a concern.
