Help with identification please.

    A very interesting voyage of discovery @Woodgreen.  I don't know the plant but that purple flower is a delight!   Maybe the root colour relates to age, time of year or water content.  I hope it thrives in your woodland area.

    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Inspired by @Fire's useful thread entitled 'Follow-ups please!' I had a look for those roots/rhizomes (see above.)
    They had been left in a tray of leafy soil since May, baked, watered, submerged, dried off, but two survived and since getting very wet they have sent down new roots from the rhizomes and produced tiny leaves. I potted them up earlier. These are 4-inch pots.
    Not cardamine, but I still haven't a clue what they can be. But they are tough little cookies!
