Moving strawberries

LatimerLatimer Posts: 1,068
Hi all

I have these strawberries in a planter that is disintegrating and wanted to shift them into a bed that i can more easily net. They've already got quite a few fruits on them so I was worried about whether I should move them or not?

Thanks

I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

If it is so bad then yes you should move them but make sure you take a big root ball for each plant and then once replanted give some soaking.

I wouldn't worry about moving strawberries at any time. They're almost indestructible.
Water well, dig out, replant and water in.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

@Latimer I would rather wait until the fruits ripen, may be a few more weeks. After picking, you can move the plants.

And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

@Eustace last year the birds got all the fruit because I couldn't get it under a net! 😆

Totally agree with Fairygirl - they're tough as old boots - mine pop up all over the place in pretty poor soil, and have always survived being moved at any stage. 👍
