Hedging plant to ID

a1154a1154 Posts: 1,108
This is a continuation really of my thread about Rowans, ended up buying 10 little trees/hedge plants, put 7 in the ground, 3 in pots for later, but they are not Rowan.
No response from the seller at all (but thanks to the person who suggested trawling through bank transactions, I found them!).
I’d like to ID these. These are the ones in pots. I thought sycamore, but I don’t think sycamore is sold as a hedging plant, which I think points to acer campestre. Is that a definite? I think they are coming out, if so.

Definitely not rowan. The second photo looks like sycamore. Top one could be Acer campestre, this makes a great hedge.

Leaves not fully open yet. 2/3 Looks like Sycamore.
2/3 It is definitely not the wonderful hedging Acer campestre.

Any thoughts on what to do with 10 sycamore trees? I was thinking of pulling them out, putting them in a pile and jumping up and down on them.

    Good plan.

I would ditch the sycamores. It's not a tree for a garden unless it's of stately home proportions.
Have another go at the seller, send them pictures and ask for a full refund. If there's still no response you could call them out on social media, eg if you do Facebook and they have a page on there, it sometimes gets a better response if you post on there about your problem.

It's very frustrating for you @a1154. You've not received what you were buying.
I'd go with @JennyJ's advice, and don't let them mess you about. Social media seems to be the best route with some of these problems. They don't like bad publicity, and it's harder for them to hide. If it's a genuine seller, they'll respond and do the right thing.
You could even use this thread for backup if you need it.

Sycamores are great - in the right place, but it doesn't matter -it isn't what you were buying    :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

They weren’t for a garden @jennyj it’s more like a bit of woodland, but it has several large sycamores (yak) and I’m already pulling out loads of seedlings every year. I wanted to increase the number of species and attract birds, hence the choice of native rowan. (and they were inexpensive ).
They do have a FB page! I’m not on FB but can get OH to message.

Just an update to say I haven’t managed to get any response from emailing, and the FB page isn’t active, so we didn’t bother.
They weren’t expensive and I’m going to give up and put this one down to experience.

It’s a shame … but sometimes we have better things to do with our lives. Good luck with the woodland. Sounds a great project. 😊
