Eupatorium rugosum 'Chocolate'
I purchased two of these last year and they did well and filled a void in a partially shady bed. But no signs of life from them so far which is a bit concerning as pretty much everything else in the garden is on its way. Spring has been mild and winter wasn't tough at all here. Are they likely to grow? They are new to me and I haven't managed to find out online. I cut them down and have given the stumps a gentle tug and they seem to be well-rooted and haven't disintegrated as things tend to do here.

When you say you cut them down, was this last Autumn?
I often find that slugs and snails munch on the shoots as they come out of the ground

If it were me, l would dig them up and put them in a couple of pots, in a sheltered spot and see if they start to shoot. It may just be that you've been unlucky and they have died, the fact there are still roots means there may be hope.
From what I can see ,they are classed as hardy in the UK, hardy down to around minus 10 or so.
