couch grass

Wanted to know if this is couch grass and what are the best ways to deal with it without taking up the whole lawn ?
The lawn area is about 6 m x 6 m and there are quite a few of these now .

I think it's more likely something like Yorkshire Fog, but it's hard to be sure without the flowers. Couch has long, pale running roots rather than individual clumps. I have a lot of similar coarse grass in my lawn this year but it doesn't much bother me. I occasionally hoik out a clump, or slash it with one of those hook-shaped weeding knives (that's supposed to weaken it). If it leaves too big a gap you can add a bit of compost and some seed to match the rest of the lawn. Chemical weedkiller will kill your lawn grass as well.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

I'd agree - it's just one of those coarse grasses that take over. Usually when there's a lot of very dry weather, as it can cope well with that, when more cultivated types of grass seem to struggle.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
