Is this a pest?

What is this? And is it damaging? They are swarming around my apricot after it was infested with a small black beetle (being dealt with organically with a lime wash), around my almond tree and my roses. I can’t see any damage, nor does there seem to be any sticky residue that may have attracted it in the first place, but I may be wrong about that; it just seems to swarm and crawl around the leaves and trunk frenetically before swarming again. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Do you mean the thing that looks like a black, slender beetle with a reddish head? It could be one of the soldier beetles. Soldier beetles are helpful in the garden. They eat pests like aphids and they pollenate flowers.

Yes, that’s right. Thank you. I do hope you’re right.

That's what it looks like to me too ... it's certainly doesn't look like any pest that I know.
