Climbing rose training

Hi, I'm looking at training a climbing rose up the pillar of a pergola but because of the fairy lights attached to it I'm not sure it's going to be practice to train the stems around the pillar. There is a vertical support in place from a previous clematis and am wondering whether with a stronger wire it will be suitable to train the rose up this? Thanks.
