Hi all, just spotted these on trunk of my large acer. Should I be worried?

Having checked online I think it’s scale insect so will pop out and scrape them all off

    I agree.
Scrape off, or, perhaps better, dab with cotton wool buds soaked in alcohol.

I use a stiff brush to shift them if there's quite a few. Once the 'shell' is damaged it's game over

@punkdoc maybe if I just drink the alcohol I won’t care?
Seriously though is that a better way to clear them?
Never seen them before it’s a good sized apparently healthy tree.

My lemon trees get scale insects, I  dab them with cheap cooking brandy, works a treat.
