Obelixx - Thanks, seems to by no rhyme or reason as to why some come on and others not.  Maybe patience??? Will wait and see .......

I left all mine out in fleeced pots as usual. About six varieties. They started sprouting in Mid April and we’ve have no frost since then so the fleece came off. Some growth is about a foot high, others have solid tubers but no growth yet.

Some, like Mexican Star, are known for getting going early and flowering early. Last year they bloomed from early May and finished early. Maybe in Sept. I have started a species dahlia new this year and nothing at all is showing yet.

Patience and v minimal watering is the name of the game. And keeping the slugs off.

The temps also need to be fairly consistent for them to really get going  - as with many plants  :)
If you're in the west up here @Kitty52 , they're unlikely to survive in the ground I'm afraid. Wet cold is no use for them.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Fairygirl ,  I had left only  1 in ground over winter  to see what happened. It was one  I had grown from seed and had been great plant. Ones I was concerned about were lifted and stored. I’ll try and be patient.
