Protection from deer?

I have a very open planting space with no fencing, I usually guard my new trees and shrubs with an individual fence to protect them from deer and rabbits. However I have a couple trees I just planted right near my house,  and I temporarily wrapped the trunks in burlap to protect it. My question is, can I leave the burlap all summer or will it cause some kind of damage to the tree/trunk? Should I just replace it a soon as possible? I would like to take my chances with he burlap until winter, then fence it, just because it looks more natural than a fence, but I don't want to kill my beautiful plum and weeping cherry tree in the meantime. I'm in the  northeast US by the way, so our season of winter prepping starts in October/November usually (I just planted the trees in April), and the deer will eat them at all points of the year. Thank you for any help!

If they are anything like my Deer, I expect they would eat the burlap [ Hessian to UK viewers ] as well.
How can you lie there and think of England
