  I have an area of my veg patch which is affected by marauding slugs as they live in the foundations of some nearby steps. 

  I find the organic slug pellets work effectively protecting my lettuce seedlings.

  I'm going to try growing salad leaves in a not-so-big container (bowl or pot) which can be stood on a brick put in an old frying pan filled with water as a moat.... I did that for my two young clematis growing in pots, and so far slugs and snails have not touched them.

  @Grajean slug pellets with Metaldehyde are banned but you can get organic ones I think.
