My plan is to fix a metal post to my own wall and string out steel wires to a metal post fixed to the ground situated around 2/3rds the way down the yard.

I would build the planter out of brick, making it 0.6m high with a length of 4m and a width of 0.6m, this gives a soil width of 0.4m.

The steel wires would be 0.45m away from the party wall with the back of the brick planter 0.15m away.

Would this idea work? Hopefully, I have left a sufficient gap between what would grow there and the party wall. To give added strength I could also attach another post to my gate wall and string along more steel wires to meet the middle post.

Just jumping in here. Please remember that whatever you are planning to do with a raised bed/planting plan, at some time someone will/may have to get close to that wall - plus their equipment - to repair or repoint it. It would be a shame if you had to dismantle everything to give them the required space. I think this is why a lot of folk use large planters/pots to create a pleasant green space, they are easily moveable.

That is a good point you raise about needing access to the wall to repoint. I actually think I have solved that issue now. If I were to mount a top rail and hang the wires vertically this could mean if access is required to the party wall I just take down the top rail and bend the pants away from the party wall.

I guess I would have to move the planter more away from the wall as that would still be in the way but repointing should still be possible if a little tight.
