Asda had Mrs Bradshaw for £2 each or 3 for £5.  My local one still has a few mixed in with the newer ones that have come in more recently (same when I was out and about at the weekend in other branches).  Worth a look of you have any Asda stores nearby.

Those are the ones @TheGreenMan. My seed sowing skills are hit and miss so a ready plant would have suited me. I just don’t always have the time to nurture little things that takes a couple of years to flower. Like my achillea is still minuscule. I’ll recheck the shops today.

If I lived near a Morrisons I think I’d be spending more as they have good variety. I have resisted buying lots of things too.

sorry about the painting, houseplants and tree ferns that got away. I regret selling off a house. Not the same as not buying something though.

With plants is usually ‘the one that I didn’t buy enough of’ then want to add to, by which time they have disappeared from the GC never to be seen again. A good friend is an antiques dealer and always says ‘see it, love it, buy it because you will never see it again’.

Not plants.  But a painting.  It would have been a struggle to buy it when I saw it at an art exhibition but we could have just about done it.  It sold to someone else just as we decided we ought to be sensible and I have regretted it ever since.  I still see it in my mind's eye!  And the artist has since become more successful and her paintings doubled in price!
In the 80s there was a sale of Heath Robinson drawings and paintings at the South Bank in London. There was one for 850 pounds (many times our monthly mortgage then). As you say we walked away feeling very sensible. Still regret it.

I'll never understand why people would buy a plant (or any other item) simply because they're at a bargain price. If I need a certain plant, it's because I have decided that it would fit exactly in a certain spot in my garden. If it's available at a reasonable cost, then I buy it. If it's not available or unreasonably expensive, then I don't buy it... and I try to settle for a second best... or I just wait.

I did wait, then I found it and got it. It’s not a massive regret. That’s the joy of gardening. You can get quite a lot for a little. I wouldn’t spend beyond my means for any hobby so sometimes I like the bargains but not just for the sake of it.
