I think I have a fledging blackbird!

Apologies for this awful video

would explain the naughty blackbird I’ve been seeing in the garden!

How far from the nest do the usually fledge?

My daughter had this happen,  Blackbird nested in her garden, fledging was pushed out, daughter picked it up and placed in the nest, mother pushed it out, happened a few times in the end she left it.
She looked at the breeding habits and apparently they push it out before it’s  mature enough and feed it on the ground for quite a few days.
Maybe best to leave it,  if you chase it round the garden the mother may abandon it. She knows where it is.

Has he got a speckled chest?

@Lyn I wasn’t worried, it’s pretty much as big as an adult blackbird but not flying yet, I know that’s what they do :) has lots of feathers so I know it’s not a baby that’s fallen out! I have no intention of interfering

@Dovefromabove yes sort of speckled all over, dark brown with lighter brown spots, more on the chest than the back

Sounds like a juvenile blackbird to me. The adults will still be around somewhere, feeding him from time to time until he gets the hang of things.
